I mentioned some time ago that I wanted to get one, and I just wanted to update all of you on the Apple Airport Express. I just got one at a local store here in Taiwan and I am very impressed, to say the least.
Setup could have been a bit easier for enabling the remote printing feature, but overall it was just plug and play. I also need to comment on the speed of the device. I did notice that things were now very fast. This is due to the fact that the airport express is a 802.11g device. 802.11b devices run at 11 mbs (megabits per second) but the Airport Express runs at 54 mbs. This is almost 5x the speed of my previous connection.
I would also like to mention that it is small, very small! Furthermore, CNET found it to be the 2nd fastest home router out there. The fastest happens to be by DLINK and it is only compatible with DLINK wireless adaptors. We use an Apple iBook and an IBM x40, which do not support the DLINK standards, so for home this actually is the fastest available.
I would also like to mention that AirTunes works great. Using iTunes and the Airport Express you can broadcast your music all over your house and route the music to digital or analog recievers. This would be a great way to expand your home network and also make sure your favorite music plays in every corner of the house. (These devices would probably have saved my dad some $$$ when he was wiring the house durring the remodel.
