Dinner at Cosi o Cosi

Banyan tree roots

Tonight Steven and I went to an Italian restaurant (Cosi o Cosi) which was very good. There was an eclectic crowd and I wrote down notes about the different patrons

One of the first people I noticed was a short lady sitting at the table across from me. She stuffed her face with so many noodles that they hung out like the roots coming off the branches of a banyan tree. She looked like a fish, with small black eyes and leaned over her plate like a hunchback. When she finished what was on her plate, one of her friends would serve her more pasta and she would smile, with small white pieces of spaghetti sticking out of her braces. Sadly, no amount of dental work would make her more beautiful.

The next set of patrons I saw were sitting next to us having a dinner meeting. It was one man and two girls, and he was obviously hoping one of them (or both) would go home with him. I could tell this by first noticing that they had twice as many empty glasses of alcohol than he did. Furthermore, he kept eying them. I don’t need to speak Chinese to understand that he was hitting on them.

The last set of patrons I saw was a grungy western guy and his well dressed Taiwanese girlfriend. He was wearing gray MC Hammer pants and a Beatles button down shirt. He had a military style vest that hung over the back of his chair while he leaned over and whispered into his girlfriend’s ear as she would smile lovingly. This smile was much nicer than fish lady’s smile, and I am sure he was one happy westerner.

  1. Have you been to diamond toni’s? I hear they now have a place in 101 too. First time I went to Taiwan we went to their old place for my sister-in-laws wedding. I finally found somewhere that I can drink everyone under the table.

  2. I’m just looking forward to Thanksgiving – we are going home this year. I can try that place once we get back, but unfortunately Steven is allergic to alcohol, so that means after 2 drinks he would be under the table….

  3. Most people appear to be the same in Taipei apart from my father-in-law :)

    Enjoy Thanksgiving
