KTV Last Wednesday

Steven and I joined some of my coworkers last Wednesday at KTV for a farewell party for one of my team members.

If you are wondering what KTV is, it is the Taiwanese equivalent of Karaoke.

You can usually book different size private rooms based upon the number of guests. Normally Steven and I would go alone and get a smaller room, however this time we were a large party of 10.

Whenever I have gone to KTV with > 4 people, I have found alcohol to be just as important as the singing, and this night was no exception. I probably have not been that drunk since the night before college graduation, but it was all in good fun and the KTV (called Cashbox) is right next to where I live so I did not have to walk too far.

We ordered 2 “kegs” of Taiwan Beer, 4 liters each and someone brought a bottle of vodka and orange juice and 7-up to make sure there were choices in alcoholic beverages. I decided not to mix my alcohol and I stuck to the beer, which I find is not too strong and is quite nice.

I would have to say that 75% of the beer was shared between one of the Canadian-Korean technical writers and myself. He has a newborn, and this is one of the few times he could get away at night and he took advantage of this. I think there was some unspoken competition between US, but we probably both ended up loosing in terms of a headache the next morning.

The funny thing I found was that the more I drank, the nicer the music sounded. Additionally, (I thought) I sang much better as the night went on. I happened to record some of the singing (not me) from that night and I thought that it was pretty nice at the time.

I think the fact that I thought this sounded good is an indicator of how much I had to drink! Regardless, it was all good fun and I am sad to see my coworker leave, but at least we had a good party!
